Good, Great, Bad...

Big Ron on the tire...

In an effort to answer more questions instead of just one on one, PCF will begin to post frequently asked questions once or twice a week. Send questions here jbunch@gopractice.biz.

Q. I have been CFin for just over a year. About 3 months ago I started to plateau, miss WODs, and eventually regress in my training. I train six days a week. I love CrossFit, and I want to compete in the games this year. What am I missing?-John from Minnesota.

A. Game fever! I would wager you were hitting wkos at what would be considered normal, or optimal for yourself. Hittin PR's, makin gains, and feelin like the sky's the limit. Then you may have been exposed to all the amazing feats tossed out at the 09 games this year, and thought, "I gotta do more". The same thing happens almost every January, with new years resolutions. Good intentions turn into pipe dreams. Plans to progress, turn to plans of regression. Not only do you need to address your training program to ensure your not training for disaster, but more importantly, you must adjust, and readjust your nutrition accordingly. If you ate a certain way when you began CF...then your training progressed...but your nutrition did not(amounts, quality, and timing), you can expect no less than sub-par performance, and soon injury. If you gained muscle, your diet must now reflect the new you. If you are stronger, your rest should reflect this. If you move more weight in less time, your body maintenance time must go up. Of course there are a million other items at play, but I would start there. Check your wko, and food logs. If it does not follow the same theoretical line of improvement as your training does...then you have a simple fix.
